As part of a number of Summer events, Castle Cary is pleased to announce a fascinating display in the Town Centre.

This will take place at the top of the historic Market House in the newly acquired Victorian Assembly and Billiard Rooms. It's a joint venture by the Cary History Society, Castle Cary Town Council, and Castle Cary and District Museum, supported by The Newt in Somerset.

Explore the story of the town over time from the Stone Age through the Roman and Norman invasions, the Civil War and right up to date as the gateway to the Glastonbury festival through a selection of intriguing objects and accompanying video presentation. Illuminated by a 4000-year-old axe head, a Roman House-God, the story and model of the castle, a hoard of hidden coins, the Horsehair Factory and more, visitors can see how the town has developed through the ages. They can also see the plans for the renovation of the top floor of the Market House to include a lift and so explore aspects of Castle Cary’s past and future in one place. There will be a ground floor presentation of the display by appointment for those unable to manage the stairs.
