The Local Spotlight

Radio Ninesprings is dedicated to spotlighting the South West’s best musical talent and each week, features five local acts during our Drivetime and Local Spotlight shows.

GUIDELINES FOR MUSIC

• Songs must be submitted in MP3 or WAV format
• Links to download from Google Drive, WeTransfer, etc are fine
• Please do NOT send links to Spotify playlists etc., which are not downloadable
• 3 – 4 minutes per track is the ‘sweet spot’ – anything below 2m or above 5m is awkward for radio play so please don’t submit these, even if you think they’re really, really good!
• Recordings must be of studio quality for broadcasting (e.g. no phone recordings or bedroom demos!)
• No live performance recordings please
• No bad language (edited versions acceptable, though word scrambling/reversing preferred over bleeping to make it ‘less obvious’)

GUIDELINES FOR PICTURES

We will promote your appearance on our station in social media posts on Instagram and Facebook. To see the sort of pictures we need and how we use them, please scroll through https://www.instagram.com/radio9springs

and https://www.facebook.com/radioninesprings and look for the Local Spotlight posts – this will help you understand why we need to have the following guidelines;

• At least upper-half pictures please (full length ideal as it creates more options)
• Everything in frame
• Without cables/microphones in the way
• In colour – no black and white please
• No gig pictures (the lighting invariably causes issues)
• Not sitting on, leaning against, or elevating arms/legs against something (the background will be taken out, so that stool you’ve got your foot on won’t be there… instead, it’ll look like you’ve lifted your leg 18 inches off the ground for absolutely no reason)
• No “extras” – pianos, drum kits, amps, pets etc – the only thing that might work here is a guitar and even that is sometimes troublesome
• If it’s a band picture, close together please, all at the same distance from the camera.

If you’ve not got pictures that fit these guidelines, please may we suggest taking a few fit for purpose – they don’t need to be taken by a professional, nor on a fancy camera – something on a decent phone camera against a plain-ish background will work well enough.

PROMOTION

We play one local track each weekday during Drivetime just after 6.30 pm and a full hour of local music (with 2 or more songs from each of the five artists highlighted during the week) on our Local Spotlight show which airs on Sunday from 6 – 7 pm and is repeated on Wednesday from 7 – 8 pm.

Social media posts to promote these go up on Facebook and Instagram every Monday at midday.

Please do help promote the shows by liking, commenting, and sharing to your network – it’s got to be a team effort by everyone involved in these shows to make as many people as possible aware that we’re playing local music on Radio Ninesprings!

Also, please do support other local acts by liking, commenting, sharing the local music posts that go up on Mondays and Fridays during the week’s when you’re *not* being featured. The more all the acts we play on the shows support each other, the further everyone’s collective reach goes – which ultimately will lead to a bigger listening & viewing audience for all of the local artists involved.

Please note that those acts who contribute more to helping promote the show will be prioritised for airplay.
