    A man has been arrested in Yeovil on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and possessing a firearm. A building in the Market Yard, Castle Cary, has been damaged in a fire. A public health specialist at the county council says Somerset is making good progress with its coronavirus rates.     A man has been arrested in Yeovil on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and possessing a firearm. Police made the arrest after being called to an alleged assault in the Crofton Park area of the town at around 8 am on Sunday morning.

    A building in the Market Yard, Castle Cary, has been damaged in a fire. The Devon & Somerset Fire service says it was caused by an electrical fault. The damage was slight and no one was hurt.

    A public health specialist at the county council says Somerset is making good progress with its coronavirus rates. Figures show rates are currently 17.6 cases per 100,000 population. 

    A Yeovil man has appeared in court charged with speeding. Christopher Gentry of Arlington Close who caught travelling at 51 mph in a 40 zone and was fined £40 and was given 3 penalty points on his licence by magistrates in Yeovil.

    The multi-million-pound project to upgrade junction-25 on the M5 will see a new road layout open permanently this week. It's the next step in the £19.2 million scheme that will make it easier for traffic on the A358 to access the M5 at junction 25.
