    Food vouchers are being handed out to families in South Somerset his week during the school half-term break. Somerset County Council has provided £250,000 for the vouchers to be given to fourteen thousand children to ensure that no child in Somerset goes hungry while schools are closed.

    A motorcyclist from Yeovil has been killed in an accident near Dorchester. His Harley Davidson machine was in collision with a Ford Focus on Coombe Road in Winterbourne Steepleton at around 7.30 pm on Sunday. Police ask that anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash-cam footage call the non-emergency number 101.

    People in South Somerset who caught coronavirus but didn’t need hospital treatment are being asked to take part in a scientific study. It’s to find out if people’s genes played a part in how the virus affected them. 

    People are being asked not to put batteries in with household rubbish after a battery fire inside a rubbish truck in Wincanton. The blaze was sparked by batteries crushed in a compactor at the back of the vehicle. Somerset Waste Partnership says batteries should be taken to recycling sites, or left in recycling bins at supermarkets and electrical outlets.

    Attending services at a church near Chard is about to get more comfortable. St Mary’s Church at Higher Wambrook has applied for planning permission to build a toilet block for parishioners to use before, during, or after attending services.
