Parking.

Few things are more annoying than finding someone's car blocking your driveway or parking carelessly.

Regardless of whether its a neighbour or rogue driver; not being able to get to your property because it’s blocked can be infuriating. The updated Highway Code rules offer some useful information for both drivers and homeowners, who might be entangled in a parking dispute. The pertinent part of the code is rule 243, which sets out where people can and cannot park their vehicles.  The rule states that drivers should not stop or park in front of an entrance to a property. Even though the Highway Code is a set of guidelines, breaking those guidelines can lead to fines, penalty points and even prison.

A little-known Highway Code rule that could land you in hot water is to be found asleep in your car. Fines for this offence can be up to £2,500 with 10 points put on your licence. The rule, part of the road traffic act and Highway Code, states that if you are drunk in your car, you could be prosecuted, regardless of what you are doing.  It doesn’t matter if you are asleep when in the car, you could still be given a penalty for being ‘in control' of a vehicle when above the limit.
