Maternity services at Yeovil Hospital will reopen on Tuesday April 21st. Somerset NHS Foundation Trust says the safety concerns that led to the closure of the baby unit in May last year have now been addressed. These include the recruitment of new paediatric consultants and midwives. The Trust’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Melanie Iles, says they are confident the right framework and processes are in place to deliver a safe maternity service in Yeovil.

Somerset Council says it will work with community groups, alongside Citizens Advice Somerset, to distribute support through its Crisis Resilience Fund. The government has provided twenty-three million pounds, with an additional one million pounds specifically allocated for households reliant on oil for heating. The funding is intended to support individuals and families facing hardship across Somerset.

A Somerset woman who relies on a wheelchair for mobility has criticised changes to the Motability scheme. From July, VAT and a premium tax will apply to most newly leased Motability vehicles, along with higher mileage charges. Kay Millar says the changes have made the scheme unaffordable.

Yeovil’s Marlie Packer has announced that she is expecting a baby with her partner, Rosie Galligan. Both were members of the England Red Roses squad that won the Women’s Rugby World Cup last year.

Somerset Freemasons have presented a cheque for forty-three thousand pounds to Young Somerset, a charity that supports young people and families most in need across the county.
