The NFU says that testing for the virus Bluetongue needs to be sped up. Construction of new flats on Yeovil’s Grimsby Corner site will officially begin next year. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind tomorrow... and more.

The National Farmers Union says that testing for the virus Bluetongue needs to be sped up so farmers can respond to outbreaks more quickly, especially here in the South West. 350 farms have reported cases in Somerset between the 10th July and 18th October this year, with the virus affecting cattle and sheep.

Construction of new flats on Yeovil’s Grimsby Corner site will officially begin next year. Taunton company, Acorn Homes, is behind development of the brownfield site and will be demolishing the existing buildings, ahead of the construction of 48 one and two bedroom flats. The location is close to the former Glovers Walk shopping centre which has its own long-term regeneration plans.

Healthcare workers in Somerset and Wiltshire have staged a 24 hour strike over concerns for staffing levels and excessive workloads. Workers at HCRG Care Services in Bath, Chippenham and Swindon started the action at 8am yesterday morning. The Unison union says overstretched staff are struggling to provide the support patients need, while high absence levels is placing further pressure. HCRG says staffing is "now at the required level" and it is"continuing to improve systems and processes to reduce workloads".

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind tomorrow. The alert will be in place from midnight tonight through to midday, although the likelihood of significant impact will be low.

It's hoped that refurbishments at the outpatient department at the Royal United Hospitals in Bath will make a real difference for children being treated for cancer. The money from the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group has paid for two extra treatment spaces, refurbished waiting areas and modernised facilities.
