A potato farmer in South Petherton claims he’s heading for losses of one hundred thousand pounds due to climate change. Philip Vaux of New Rydon Farm grows potatoes for the high-end crisp sector. He says recent heavy and prolonged rain, which he blames on climate change, has left his crop almost completely worthless. The NFU in Somerset is warning of steep rises in potato prices as a result of the bad weather.

Police detained four protestors who graffitied County Hall in Taunton yesterday and tried to obstruct the entrance to the building. The four were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and then further arrested on suspicion of locking onto a person. Somerset Council says the protest was linked to one of the commercial investments that they are selling.

Somerset Council has launched a new partnership to help refresh the county’s roads. It follows the signing of a £225 million contract between Somerset Council and Kier that covers key highway maintenance work, including repairs, drainage, verge cutting and winter services.

Yeovil Town striker Frank Nouble has been commenting ahead of tomorrow’s home game against Worthing that could see the Glovers promoted from National League South. If Yeovil win, it’ll be their first title victory in nineteen seasons. Frank says he and the other players are looking forward to making history at Huish Park tomorrow.

A Yeovil Town fan who fell ill during Easter Monday’s game against Weymouth has returned to the Bob Lucas stadium to thank everyone who helped her. The game was halted with Weymouth leading 1-0 when Glovers fan Hayley Singleton became unwell in the 77th minute. She was airlifted to Dorset County Hospital where after three days she was discharged and continues to make a good recovery. No decision has been made yet about whether the match will be replayed or if the result will stand.
