A man from Yeovil has been jailed for eight years after being convicted of three counts of rape against a teenager. Sam Jones, aged 32, of Preston Road in Yeovil at the time of the offending, who now lives in Piddlehinton, in Dorset, was jailed after being found guilty by a majority verdict following a trial at Bristol Crown Court.

Smoking rates in Somerset remain higher than in many other parts of the UK, with one in six people in places like Bridgwater and Highbridge using cigarettes. The figures from the Office for National Statistics also show a rise in the number of young people vaping.

A partial reconstruction of a coach collision on Exmoor, where a 10-year-old boy died, has taken place as part of ongoing investigations. Oliver Price was one of seventy school children who'd been on board at the time when the vehicle ended up plunging down a slope near Wheddon Cross. Police closed part of the A396 on Wednesday and have thanked the public for their understanding and support.

Somerset Council will be resurfacing part of the A359 through Queen Camel next week. Work on the road will be carried out between 9.30 am and 3.30 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Council says pedestrian access will be maintained throughout, but vehicle access to some properties may be restricted.
