Somerset Community Foundation has launched a new appeal, calling for donations to help people living in poverty. ‘The Somerset Cost of Living Crisis Appeal’ will fund local charities which help people with their everyday living costs.
Four people, including a man from Chard, have been ordered to pay back more than £375,000 after being convicted of being involved in the supply of illegal drugs. The ringleader of the group, Wesley Wells-Burr, who owned a house in Chard, was jailed last week after police discovered cannabis factories that he ran near Taunton and in Chard. Wells-Burr was jailed at Taunton Crown Court after pleading guilty to conspiracy to supply cannabis.
Military veterans and their family members are being offered places on a new training course at the Somerset Recovery College. It's called "The Art of Resilience for the Military Community" and teaches techniques for managing stress and anxiety.
More women are being encouraged to take up fishing. It's part of a new project by the Westcountry Rivers Trust which has secured funding from the National Lottery and Sport England.
