    Efforts are underway in Somerset to provide Afghan refugees with not only accommodation but also donations of clothes and furniture. The County Council says the refugees won't speak English or have any processions and they will have experienced trauma. Council Leader David Fothergill says in finding families a place to live they'll be focusing on urban areas in the County.

    The team responsible for providing vaccinations in schools in Somerset say they've almost cleared the big backlog created by the pandemic. Last year, the impact of lockdown meant around 6,500 Year-9 students missed their vaccines for meningitis and booster jabs for diphtheria, tetanus and polio. Teams have revisited schools and offered community clinics to help catch up. 

    The Castlebrook Inn in Compton Dundon near Somerton has been voted Traditional Pub of the Year in the South West England Prestige Awards. Licensees, Hannah and Tony Attwood took over running the Castlebrook last year and say their thrilled to have had their hard work recognized.

    The owners of the Newt Hotel at Bruton are planning a new enterprise at Castle Cary railway station. They want to convert the former cheese factory next to the station into a café and shop to use to welcome guests as they stepped off the London trains. 

    Yeovil Town‘s delayed start to the new season finally kicks off tomorrow, Saturday. The Glovers host visitors Kings Lynn at Huish Park in the National League. Kick-off is at 3 pm with Huish Park subject to reduced Covid restrictions.
