Staff at Yeovil-based leather manufacturer Pittards have had their salaries and hours cut to save money. It follows news that the company failed to raise the one-point-one million pounds it needed to stay afloat. Pittards say all options - including selling the business - are being considered.

Work trimming roadside verges in Somerset is to continue into September. Somerset Council says it’s become necessary to ensure that all road users are kept safe. The programme of verge trimming was cut back earlier in the year to promote habitat creation and protect wildlife.
A new music shop is soon to open in Chard. Run by local musician, Dan Shortland, it will be in the Stringfellow Gallery on Holyrood Street, selling all types of instruments and offering music lessons and a repair service.
