The Royal Proclamation, announcing the accession of King Charles the Third as the new monarch has been read out in Yeovil. A large crowd of local people, civic dignitaries, faith and community representatives gathered in Yeovil Country Park at 4 pm yesterday for the proclamation that was made public by the Chairman of South Somerset District Paul Maxwell. Books of condolence in memory of Queen Elizabeth are available for people to sign at council buildings across South Somerset. In Yeovil, a book of condolence has been opened at the Town Council offices in South Somerset, at Petters House in Petters Way and at St John's Church. Floral tributes can be left next to the Yew Tree in St John’s Churchyard, also by the war memorial on Preston Road, and the War Memorial in the Borough in Yeovil town centre. In Chard, a book of condolence is available for signing at the Guildhall. Floral tributes can be left at the Guildhall or the Beacon at Crowshute Link. In Wincanton, a book of condolence has been opened at the Town Hall, as well as the church of St Peter & St Paul’s in the High Street. In Crewkerne, a book of condolence is open for signing at the tourist information office in the town hall. Flowers can be left at St Bartholomew's Church and by the Lucome Oak Tree, at Henhayes Community Centre.

Somerset County Council says there’s still no date planned for when Chinnock Hollow at East Chinnock will re-open to motorists. The road that links East Chinnock with Odcombe was closed in February 2021 following a landslide. The County Council says the potential for landslides in other parts of the Hollow has been identified and that further investigations are being made to ensure the road can be reopened safely.

South Somerset is selling its stake in a planned commercial development in Yeovil. The Council entered into a joint venture with Abbey Manor Developments in 1999 acquiring land at the Lufton Trading Estate to redevelop as a commercial hub. Called Lufton 2000, two-thirds of the land was sold, leaving 13 acres available to develop. SSDC has now decided to sell its half stake in the remaining land, giving Abbey Manor Developments control over how the rest of the site is developed.

A new "advisory" speed limit has been introduced on Larkhill Road in Yeovil. The road has a 30mph speed limit, however, when the newly installed electronic signs are on, motorists are expected to slow down and drive at 20mph. It’s understood the new 20 mph speed limit will only operate when children are arriving and leaving nearby Preston School.
