Public Health England has confirmed that four cases of the Indian variant of Covid 19, also known as the Delta variant, have been recorded in South Somerset, including the Yeovil area, up to last Wednesday, 9th June. They were identified among 563 cases of the VOC-21 mutation recorded across the South West. The South West is the least affected of England's nine regions with the Indian variant now accounting for 91 per cent of all new cases of Covid in the UK.

Land off the A303 at Wincanton has been earmarked for a new drive-thru café. If approved, the café would be built next to Starbucks and McDonalds at the Wincanton Gateway in Long Close.

Police are trying to trace a teenage Vietnamese boy who has gone missing in Martock. The 16-year-old was last seen in North Street in Martock at around 6 pm on Saturday. Police are also searching for a woman missing from her home in West Coker. Christine, who’s 79, was last seen on the High Street at 7 pm on Saturday. She’s described as white, 5 foot 7 inches tall, and was wearing a blue coat. Anyone with information is asked to call the non-emergency number 101.

The Fleet Air Arm museum at Yeovilton is taking part in a national challenge to mark Armed Forces Day. They’re asking people to take part in a 5,10 or 25 km walk around their local area in honour of those who serve, after being inspired by Sir Captain Tom Moore. Armed Forces Day takes place on Saturday 26th June.

The Chief Executive of Somerset Community Foundation has been made an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list. Justin Sargent, who has led the SCF for 16-years, has received the honour for services to the community in Somerset.
