The Environment Agency has issued a warning about the dangers of people swimming in the River Parrett at Langport during the hot weather. They say people should not enter the river, nor use the bridge in Langport to jump into the water. The Environment Agency says a blockage in the river has made it dangerous. Work to clear the obstruction is currently underway.
Castle Cary Town Council has been given permission to carry out improvements to the historic Market House in the town. The work will include restoring some of the Grade-2 listed buildings original features and installing a new lift to the top floor of the building.
Kingfisher, the parent company of Yeovil-based Screwfix, recorded sales of £3.3 billion in the first quarter of 2023. Kingfisher says Screwfix has opened two new stores in France since the start of the year and has plans to open a further eighty-five new outlets across the UK, Ireland and France.
Plans have been approved to build a new classroom extension at St Michael’s Academy in Grass Royal in Yeovil. Construction of the new art block is due to begin before the end of the year.
