    People in Somerset who are struggling to pay their everyday bills are being urged to get help to avoid going into debt. A scheme in Somerset that helps combat loneliness among older people is being hailed as a big success. According to a new survey, only 1-in-4 families say they plan to eat a turkey dinner on Christmas Day. The gardens at Yeovil Hospital have been praised in a local gardening competition and Yeovil Rotary Club has sent fifty shoeboxes, filled with Christmas gifts to disadvantaged families in Eastern Europe.

    People in Somerset who are struggling to pay their everyday bills are being urged to get help to avoid going into debt. It follows the announcement that the cost of living has grown at its fastest rate for ten years with inflation now standing at 5.1 percent. 

    A scheme in Somerset that helps combat loneliness among older people is being hailed as a big success. During the pandemic, Age UK Somerset has seen a growing number of people losing confidence and physical strength, so the charity's started pairing people up to walk and talk. 

    According to a new survey, only 1-in-4 families say they plan to eat a turkey dinner on Christmas Day. It’s not a view shared by Mark of West Country Butchers in Chard. He says most of his customers will be having turkey on Christmas Day.

    The gardens at Yeovil Hospital have been praised in a local gardening competition. Judges for Yeovil in Bloom rated the hospital’s grounds and, in particular, the dementia garden as ‘outstanding’ in both design and plant life.

    Yeovil Rotary Club has sent fifty shoeboxes, filled with Christmas gifts to disadvantaged families in Eastern Europe. Staff at the Jones Building Group in Yeovil have been thanked for their work in helping make this year’s Shoebox Appeal such a success.
