The rail line between Yeovil, Dorchester and Weymouth is closed from today for essential maintenance and will not re-open until December 3rd. Over the 16-day shutdown, buses are being used to replace trains with passengers being told that journey times will take longer.

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision between a cyclist and a car in Yeovil. It happened on Lyde Road at around 6.15 pm on Monday, 8th November. Police want to speak to the driver of the car who left the scene of the accident without giving the cyclist his contact details. The cyclist was later treated in hospital for minor injuries. If you can help the police, you’re asked to call the non-emergency number 101.

A Yeovil-based accountancy firm is planning to create up to 320 new jobs over the next five years. Old Mill says it’ll double the number of people it employs and is necessary to cope with projected business growth up to 2026. Apart from a head office in Yeovil, Old Mill has offices in Chippenham, Exeter and Wells.

Plans to build a new breast care unit at Yeovil Hospital have been approved. Breast care services are currently carried out at various locations within the hospital, as well as at off-site facilities. The new two-storey unit will provide a dedicated single space for treating patients. It’ll consist of waiting rooms, consultation rooms, diagnostic rooms, and counselling rooms and has been funded from the proceeds of a public appeal.

An Ilminster woman has launched a fundraising campaign to help people affected by last month’s major flooding event in the town. Residents at Holway House Park in Station Road had to be rescued when their homes flooded following heavy rain. Kelly Henderson is hoping to raise ten thousand pounds through her appeal.
