Police are asking motorists to take extra care with black ice a problem for drivers on many roads again today. Meanwhile, the Environment Agency is warning of localized flooding with a major incident declared on the Somerset Levels.

Huish Episcopi Academy at Langport has been put under special measures by Ofsted. It follows an inspection that found evidence of poor behaviour and bullying, with some pupils saying they felt unsafe at the school.

Crewkerne Town Council is putting a number of projects on hold, including the planned improvements to the Barn Street Recreational area, to help keep down next year’s council tax. The council is also cutting back on its newsletter and giving up some leased office premises. Despite the savings.

People living in Shepton Montague near Bruton have a new celebrity neighbour. He’s the actor Benedict Cumberbatch who has paid just over eight million pounds for a house with land in the area.

An Ilminster woman, who’s living with a brain tumour, is taking on a walking challenge for charity. Katie Galan-Wilkinson is aiming to cover 280-thousand steps during February, raising money for cancer charities. Katie is determined to complete the challenge but says her illness is a constant worry.
