Several collection points have opened in the Chard area for donations of clothing and supplies to help people in Ukraine. What’s needed are blankets, socks, gloves, scarves, first aid items, baby food, long life or tinned food, pet food, sanitary products and toothbrushes. If you have items to donate, you’re asked to take them to the Polish Shop, in Howard Row, off Fore Street in Chard, to house number 25, Donyatt Hill in Donyatt near Ilminster or to Tesco in Chard.

A pilot scheme using e-scooters in Yeovil is being extended. The Yeovil trial is aimed at getting people out of cars but has been linked to accidents around the town. South Somerset District Council has extended the pilot to the end of November.

A motorist caught travelling at 124 mph on the A30 dual carriageway at Babylon Hill, near Yeovil, has been given a one-month driving ban. Joshua Honeysett, of Melbury Park in Dorchester, was also fined £500 and ordered to pay court costs of £110.

TSB has confirmed that its Yeovil branch will permanently close on Tuesday, 12th April. The building occupied by TSB, together with the next-door building, occupied by Café Nero, on the corner of the High Street and King George, has been earmarked for a Lounge bar and café development.

An Ilminster mother living with a brain tumour is encouraging people to take part in 'Wear A Hat Day' to raise money for Brain Tumour Research. Katie Galan-Wilkinson has raised nearly £6,000 for the charity since being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2019. Bruton-based, Sarah Beeny, will be one of the many celebrities supporting 'Wear A Hat Day' on Friday, 25th March.
