With further wintry conditions overnight in Somerset, motorists using local roads are being advised to check ahead and plan for disruption to their journeys today. National Highways say their gritters have been out overnight and are doing all they can to keep the roads safe.

Dog attacks on people in Somerset are on the rise, according to Avon and Somerset Police. The force dealt with more than six hundred reports of dogs attacking members of the public in 2022, a twenty per cent increase on 2018.

A Somerton man has appeared in court on a drink and driving charge. Stefano Delmanso of Searle Court in Somerton pleaded guilty to the offence at Yeovil Magistrates Court and was fined £440 and banned from driving for sixteen months.

South Somerset District Council is selling its stake in a planned commercial development in Yeovil for less money than it originally budgeted to get back from the deal. The council entered into a joint venture with Abbey Manor Developments Ltd in 1999 to redevelop land on the Lufton Trading Estate as a major commercial hub. Now, members of the SSDC Executive have voted to sell the council’s 50 per cent stake in the site for a reduced price.

Chard boxer, Paul Roberts, has been crowned the new Southern Area Flyweight Champion. Roberts beat Harry Mullins in a ten-round contest held at York Hall in London.
