    Farmers in South Somerset are being warned of the dangers of cyberattacks. A Yeovil motorist arrested for drink driving has been banned from driving for 16 months.     Farmers in South Somerset are being warned of the dangers of cyberattacks. The police led South West Cyber Resilience Centre says cyber attackers pose a real threat to disrupting the food supply chain and are urging farmers to review their IT security.

    A Yeovil motorist arrested for drink driving has been banned from driving for 16 months and fined £265. Kenneth Lane, aged 80, of Penhill Road in Yeovil was subjected to a breath test while driving in Sidmouth. Appearing before magistrates in Exeter, Lane admitted the charge and said he would be giving up driving for good.

    A new Costa Coffee drive-thru could be built in a supermarket car park in Yeovil. A planning application has been submitted for the new coffee shop at Morrison’s car park on Lysander Road. If approved by South Somerset District Council it would be sited on the western edge of Morrison’s car park, close to where a temporary vaccine centre is currently operating.

    Millions of pounds are to be spent improving flood defences in South Somerset. Included in the programme of works are safety improvements to the South Perrott Reservoir near Crewkerne. The replacement of pumps at Long Load pumping station near Langport, and the replacement of pumps at Midleney pumping station near Curry Rivel.

    A public consultation has been launched into plans to build 100 new homes near Chard. The Crossman Group want to build a mix of homes and bungalows between Perry Street and Factory Lane in Tatworth. The company says it will submit a planning application to South Somerset District Council once the consultation has ended in September.

    A ten pin-bowling club in Yeovil is appealing for new members. The Yeovil Bowling Club meet at the Yeo Leisure Park Hollywood Bowl every Saturday morning but say due to lockdown they have lost members and need new supporters to keep going.
