Plans have been submitted for a new 252-home estate on the outskirts of Yeovil. The development, off Mudford Road, would be situated adjacent to another planned 750-home project off Lyde Road. The Lyde Road development was given the green light by 2019, meaning the northeast of Yeovil could be welcoming more than 1,000 new homes in the coming years. South Somerset District Council is due to consider the proposal by the late summer.

Police are appealing for information following a stabbing in Yeovil. It happened at a property on The Twines, around midday, last Wednesday. A man remains in hospital where he’s being treated for serious stab wounds. If you can help the police, please call the non-emergency number 101.

A former soldier from Yeovil is competing at Invictus Games in the Netherlands. Jules Allen, who sustained spinal injuries while in the British Army, is a member of the UK wheelchair rugby team. Jules says he plans to start a Wheelchair Rugby league in Somerset on his return from the games.

As households face higher bills, support is being offered in Yeovil to help people better manage their finances. ‘Christians Against Poverty' has launched a Life Skills course aimed at helping people cope with record inflation and living costs.

Police are urging people to report fly-tipping after a sofa, headboard and dirty cushions were found dumped at Underdown Hollow, off the A30 at Babylon Hill. Police say if you spot examples of fly-tipping, take a photograph and send it to South Somerset District Council, who will remove the items, and seek to find those responsible.

A Somerset man, killed in action during World War II, has been remembered with a memorial in his home village, Isle Brewers. The plaque to Sergeant Kenneth Brice, who grew up at Frog Lane Farm in Isle Brewers and worked at Yandles Garage in Martock prior to the outbreak of the war, can be seen at All Saints Church.
