    Midwives and other healthcare workers across Somerset are urging the government to take action. The main access route into Bower Hinton near Martock is shut for from today. Two Yeovil motorists have been fined for driving at more than 100 mph on the A303 in South Somerset. Plans have been submitted to change the use of the Old Kelways building on Somerton Road, Langport. Britain’s largest naturist event is set to return to Somerset next summer and Yeovil Town are back in action tonight.

    Midwives and other healthcare workers across Somerset are urging the government to take action over what they are calling a crisis in the maternity sector. Campaigners say women and babies' lives are being put at risk because of staff shortages. The Department for Health says its aiming to hire 1,200 more with a £95 million recruitment drive and that more midwives are working in the NHS now than at any other time in the history of the NHS.

    The main access route into Bower Hinton near Martock is shut for from today. A 17-mile diversion through Crewkerne and Ringwell Hill will be in operation until the end of the week when the road into Bower Hinton is expected to re-open.

    Two Yeovil motorists have been fined for driving at more than 100 mph on the A303 in South Somerset. Lewis Filbee of Royal Close, Yeovil was clocked doing 129 mph near Wincanton where the limit is 70mph. He was banned from driving for 49 days and fined £161 with £90 costs. Edward Dart of Ermine Street, Yeovil, was caught driving at 108 mph on the same stretch of road and banned from driving for 35 days, fined £225, with £90 costs.

    Plans have been submitted to change the use of the Old Kelways building on Somerton Road, Langport from a public house to a café and tearoom. A decision on the application will be made by South Somerset District Council early in the New Year.

    Britain’s largest naturist event is set to return to Somerset next summer. Nudefest organised by British Naturism will be held at Thorney Lakes near Langport in mid-July. The event began at Thorney Lakes in 2016 and attracts hundreds of naturists each year who are given dozens of varied activities to take part in, including trips off-site.

    Yeovil Town are back in action tonight. They’re playing away to Bromley in the National League, kick-off is 7.45 pm.
