The scheme will generate enough power for 10,000 homes and be sited on farmland off Pipplepen Lane, close to an area of outstanding natural beauty. South Somerset District Council says the impact of the solar farm on the surrounding countryside will be mitigated through tree planting.
The A30 between Chard and Crewkerne is closed to traffic from today and for the next eight weeks. The road is shut from the junction of Liddon Hill to St Rayn Hill near Roundham for work to install new drainage pipes and road gullies. A diversion route is operating via the A356, A303, and A358.
