Councillors have given the go-ahead for a large-scale solar farm to be built at North Perrott, near Crewkerne. The scheme will generate enough power for 10,000 homes and be sited on farmland off Pipplepen Lane, close to an area of outstanding natural beauty. South Somerset District Council says the impact of the solar farm on the surrounding countryside will be mitigated through tree planting.

The A30 between Chard and Crewkerne is closed to traffic from today and for the next eight weeks. The road is shut from the junction of Liddon Hill to St Rayn Hill near Roundham for work to install new drainage pipes and road gullies. A diversion route is operating via the A356, A303, and A358.

Avon and Somerset Police says it's dedicated to rooting out corrupt officers to help restore public confidence. It follows the case of David Carrick, the former Met Police officer who admitted to dozens of rapes and sexual offences while a serving officer.
