The number of people in Somerset hospitals with COVID 19 has more than doubled over the last month. Last week alone, just under 100 people were admitted to hospitals across Somerset. This compares to 46 people admitted with Covid during the same week in September. Meanwhile, South Western Ambulance is reminding people to get both a flu jab and a Covid booster before the winter sets in. The vaccines are aimed at people aged 50 and over and those in vulnerable groups. Flu jabs are free to the over 50s and pregnant women.

New traffic calming measures are being introduced outside a Yeovil school. Somerset County Council says warning signs, flashing lights, barriers and a pedestrian crossing will be installed on Montacute Road outside Kingfisher Primary School before the end of the year.

Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for information after a series of hoax phone calls were traced to the public phone box at The Shambles in Castle Cary. The most recent call was made last Friday with officers and the air ambulance despatched to Castle Cary only to find that it was another false alarm. Anyone with knowledge of the person or persons responsible is asked to contact Wincanton Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101.

Police are asking for help in tracing a plant hire vehicle stolen in South Petherton. The digger-type vehicle had the badge Avant 635 and was spotted being driven without headlights on Silver Street in South Petherton at around 9 pm on Saturday night.

A woman who lives in Lovington near Castle Cary has been named a Lockdown hero in a national competition. Indra Cotton supported her elderly neighbours during the Covid pandemic and has been given the title ‘Haven's Lockdown Champion of Champions’.

Yeovil Town are back in action tonight (26-10). The Glovers take on Woking at Huish Park, kick-off is at 7.45 pm.
