Business leaders are concerned that plans to dual the A358 between Ilminster and Taunton could be scrapped because of government spending cuts. It’s thought the scheme, costing between £250 and £500 million may never get started, and even it does, is unlikely to be completed by the target date of 2028.

A Yeovil man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a road traffic accident. It happened in Mosterton earlier this month when a car collided with three people on a footpath. A woman in her forties died and another woman in her 20s remains in a critical condition in hospital.

A new Town Clerk has been appointed to run Chard Town Council. Gareth Hughes was born and educated in Chard and for 20 years worked in the leisure sector. Mr Hughes takes up his new position on May 9th.

Police are patrolling recreation grounds in Yeovil and across South Somerset over the school half term in an effort to curb anti-social behaviour. Members of the public who spot instances of anti-social behaviour are being asked to report it on the non-emergency number 101.

The A359 main road through Bruton will be shut to traffic tomorrow and on Friday. It’s to allow Wessex Water to repair a water leak.

An Ilchester-based cleaning company has changed hands. Craftex Cleaning Systems at Greenstalls Park in Ilchester manufacture cleaning products and machinery and have been bought for an undisclosed sum by 2San one of the UK’s leading suppliers of cleaning and healthcare products.

If you fancy working as a volunteer at Yeovil Hospital there’s a vacancy to help with the Wellbeing Tea Trolley. Duties include visiting wards with a tea trolley to make hot drinks for the staff. To apply go to the Yeovil Hospital website or call the hospital on 01935 475122.
