    Bus users in Somerset will be able to travel on most routes across the county for just £2 starting from January. The cheaper fare is part of an initiative funded by the government aimed at boosting passenger numbers. In Yeovil, the £2 ticket will apply on routes operated by Buses of Somerset and South West Coaches.

    Avon and Somerset Police have apologised to a man in South Petherton after wrongly accusing him of being over the alcohol limit whilst driving. Police say breathalyzer kits are tested before being used but that the one used in this instance was faulty and has been returned to the manufacturer.

    A new warm space is being set up in Yeovil to provide support for families struggling with their energy bills. ‘The Huddle’ is a not-for-profit organisation based in the Quedam shopping centre that will launch the service in early January.

    The South Western Ambulance Service says military personnel will provide support today, replacing ambulance drivers and paramedics who are on strike. Ambulance staff are striking in a dispute over pay and working conditions. 

    A 200-year-old property in Yeovil town centre that began life as a private dwelling and then became a shop and café is to be turned back into a private dwelling. Planning permission has been granted to convert the end-of-terrace building on the corner of Waterloo Lane at 16B Hendford into a four-bedroom house.

    A Somerset pub is to receive a special award after being listed in the Good Beer Guide every year for the past 30 years. The owners of the Halfway House in Pitney between Langport and Somerton, Lucie and Mark David will be presented with the award by the Campaign for Real Ale, who compile the Good Beer Guide.
