    Households in South Somerset are being told that their waste bins might not be emptied on time this week. A Yeovil woman has been involved in saving a calf from a river, using a paddleboard.     Households in South Somerset are being told that their waste bins might not be emptied on time this week. Somerset Waste Partnership says it’s due to a shortage of drivers and workers being off after being pinged by the NHS test and trace app. 

    A Yeovil woman has been involved in saving a calf from a river, using a paddleboard. Vicki Hamilton was using the paddleboard on the River Parrett when she spotted the emergency. She says the calf was had only just been born when it fell into the water.

    People accessing healthcare in South Somerset are being told that they must continue to wear a face mask. While restrictions relating to Covid have been lifted, the NHS in Somerset says if people attend a GP appointment, an appointment with an optician, dentist, pharmacy or hospital appointment, a face mask or face covering must be worn.

    The County Council is asking people to keep an eye out for vulnerable friends and neighbours following the amber extreme heat warning issued by the Met Office. Meanwhile, the heat has caused some road surfaces to melt. The B3224 on the Brendon Hills and the A396 at Dunster are two roads in Somerset to be affected. To lessen the damage, maintenance teams have been out spreading granite dust on tarmac surfaces.

    The Tokyo Olympics kick off this Friday. Laura Gallagher is from Somerset and a member of the Team GB trampoline gymnastics squad. Laura says she feels privileged to be part of the event.
