Businesses at the Cartgate services off the A303 near Yeovil say they feel threatened by proposals to build a new service area right next door. Under the proposals, land to the west of Cartgate would be developed by Welcome Break Ltd and include takeaways and drive-thru services. The plans have been submitted to Somerset Council with a decision expected before the end of the year.

A man who lives in Tintinhull, who was found nearly double the drink drive limit when stopped by the Police, has been given a 20-month driving ban. Magistrates in Yeovil were told that police received a tip-off that Callum Hector had been drinking at the village working men’s club before driving off. He was later found by the Police with his car having left the road and overturned. Hector was also fined £438, plus £85 in court costs.

Chard Town Council says the public toilets in Bath Street near Sainsbury's will be ‘deep cleaned’ and reopened. In a report to a meeting of the Town Council, Chief Executive David Bell stated that talks with Somerset Council were ongoing, with the Council planning to take over ownership of the toilets to bring them back into use within six months.

Police are warning of fake tickets being on sale for Glastonbury Festival. Those wanting to attend Glastonbury are advised to purchase tickets only from the festival box office or official ticketing websites.

First Bus has organised a meeting for people in Tatworth and Forton near Chard to raise concerns about the number 30 bus. Locals say the service is infrequent, and they would like the 30 bus to run more frequently. The meeting, with the Somerset Bus Partnership also in attendance, takes place at Tatworth Memorial Hall on Tuesday, July 1st, starting at 2 pm.
