    A new Solar Farm could be built in Wincanton. Plans have been submitted to South Somerset District Council to install solar panels and associated equipment on land south of Brains Farm in Moor Lane, Wincanton.

    Rural crime in Somerset fell by 20 percent according to new figures from NFU Mutual. However, the insurer says that the level of losses was still on the high side with one million pounds worth of property stolen over the past 12 months in rural parts of the County. 

    There’s better news for people in South Somerset waiting for eye operations. Patients at Yeovil Hospital are now being offered treatment at a new four million pound eye surgery theatre at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

    Around 500 wristbands have been given out to people with dementia in Somerset. The devices contain personal information about the wearer for health professionals to use in the event of an emergency. The wristbands are available from the Somerset Dementia Safeguarding partnership.

    A Crewkerne man has been fined £68 for a speeding offence. Local magistrates were told that Alan Archer of Roundham near Crewkerne was caught driving at 89 miles per hour on a 70 miles per hour stretch of the A303 near Wincanton.

    The Mayor of Chard, Jason Baker has publicly thanked members of a local Covid support group for their efforts during the pandemic. A remembrance service in the local St Mary’s Church followed by a medal presentation at the Guildhall was held in their honour, organised by Councillor Baker.
