    Councillors meet today to decide on plans to build 185 new homes on Tintinhull Road, near the Brimsmore Garden Centre, in Yeovil.     Councillors meet today to decide on plans to build 185 new homes on Tintinhull Road, near the Brimsmore Garden Centre, in Yeovil. Applicants, Gladman Developments have categorized 65 of the homes as affordable. The meeting of South Somerset District Council’s Area South Committee takes place at the council's offices in Brympton Way, starting at 2 pm.

    Local households are putting out one kilogram less rubbish for collection in black bins each week since kerbside recycling was introduced two years ago. Somerset Waste Partnership launched its 'Recycle More’ scheme in October 2020 with collections moving from fortnightly to once every three weeks. In South Somerset, the drop in rubbish left in black bins for collection has been around 14 percent or one kilogram per household per week.

    A group in Chard set up to help in the event of the town becoming seriously flooded is looking for more people to get involved. The Chard Area Resilience Group campaigns for better flood prevention and aims to inform residents quickly should there be an imminent threat of flooding. 

    Small businesses in Somerset are being encouraged to trade with the county council. The authority has changed its payment terms to pay local businesses within a week, rather than one month. 

    The organisers of Ilminster Carnival have issued a public thank you to everyone who took part in last weekend's carnival for their support. Ilminster was packed with onlookers for the mile-long procession with £3,750 being collected to put towards staging an even bigger carnival event next year.

    A woman in East Coker is looking to re-home her pet cockerel. The bird owned by Corina Gawlerbird has become a noise nuisance with its early morning crowing. Corina’s looking for the cockerel to be given a place to live well away from other houses.
