Agency health workers in Somerset claim they have been left two thousand pounds out of pocket as a result of a pay rise given to NHS workers but not to them. Community nurses and therapists, not directly employed by the NHS but who deliver services for the NHS, have not been given the government's latest pay rise award to NHS staff. The Department of Health is asking local funding organisations to urgently look into the matter.

Work has started building a new McDonald’s outlet at Horton Cross, near Ilminster. McDonald’s says the new restaurant and takeaway will create sixty-five new jobs and should be open before the end of the year.

The go-ahead has been given to convert the village pub in Hardington Mandeville into a home. In making their decision, Somerset Council said the change of use on the former Mandeville Arms will not impact adversely the vitality and viability of the village.

A Chard motorist has been banned from driving for six months and fined one hundred and twenty pounds after being caught driving without a license and insurance. Simon Hamblin of Brunel Court in Chard pleaded guilty to the charges when he appeared at Yeovil Magistrates Court.

Children with special educational needs in South Somerset will have to wait a further year for a new school to open. The Department for Education is trying to find a new academy trust to run the new special school built near Martock after the academy trust they chose to take on the school was given two inadequate Ofsted reports. It has meant that opening the school has had to be put back to September next year.
