Yeovil MP Adam Dance is calling for better support for survivors of domestic abuse living in rural communities in Somerset. Speaking in the Commons, he said survivors of domestic abuse in rural areas face unique challenges, with limited housing forcing many to move away from their support networks. Mr Dance also raised concerns about the Child Maintenance Service, warning that some abusive ex-partners exploit loopholes to avoid payments. He wants the government to introduce stronger enforcement and clearer guidance to protect survivors.
The RSPB in Somerset is urging people to stop feeding birds in their gardens over the summer months to prevent the spread of disease. The charity is advising against putting out seed and peanuts through to October, as illnesses have caused sharp declines in some species, particularly greenfinches and chaffinches.
Somerset Council is set to spend two-hundred-and-seventy-five thousand pounds compiling a review of parking charges across the county.
