The government says it won’t intervene in the decision to close the hyper-acute stroke unit at Yeovil Hospital. NHS Somerset’s Integrated Care Board took the decision back in February despite a strong local campaign to keep it open, supported by Yeovil MP Adam Dance.

Police are asking for witnesses to an accident in Yeovil in which a man suffered a broken leg. It happened on Newton Road near Cineworld last Friday at around 6.40 am. Police say the injured man was struck by a car – thought to be a Toyota – that initially stopped and then drove off. They’re appealing for the driver to come forward or anyone who saw what happened or has dashcam footage to please call the non-emergency number 101.

Ofsted has rated Shepton Beauchamp Church of England Primary School as good. In their report, inspectors recorded eight positive findings based on their visit to the school in November, including that the school engaged exceptionally well with staff, parents, and pupils.

Grants of up to twenty thousand pounds are being offered to groups to carry out flood prevention work in the county. Somerset Rivers Authority says not-for-profit organisations such as town and parish councils have until February to apply.

Somerset Council says it’s considering the impact of the government’s planned changes to the planning regulations. The changes aim to make it quicker and easier for developers and individuals to get plans approved.

Chard Police Station has reopened to the public today. The building closed in September for improvements, including fitting new windows and doors, solar panels, an air source heat pump, and two electric vehicle charging points.
