The new owner of Yeovil Town says he’s in talks with Somerset Council about buying back Huish Park. Yeovil Town sold their stadium and surrounding land to the former South Somerset District Council for £2.8 million In May 2022. Following the demise of SSDC in 2023, Huish Park was acquired by Somerset Council, which currently leases it to Yeovil Town. Prabhu Srinivasan, who completed his purchase of Yeovil Town last month, says having ownership of the stadium and surrounding land is one of his ‘first priorities’.

Water levels at some of Somerset’s reservoirs are below the levels they should be for this time of year. The Environment Agency says water levels at Blagdon Lake are ‘exceptionally low’ with Wimbleball, Clatworthy and Chew Valley reservoirs also experiencing ‘below normal water levels’ at the moment.

Two men have been handed life sentences for murdering a Yeovil man they wrongly thought was a convicted paedophile. 39-year-old Mark Roberts of Juniper Close in Yeovil and 40-year-old David Garland of no fixed abode were each found guilty of both the murder of Michael Wheeler and conspiracy to cause him grievous bodily harm with intent. Garland was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 32 years and Roberts was jailed for life with a minimum term of 27 years.

A man has died from injuries he sustained in a road traffic accident near Yeovil. Police say the man was driving along Sutton Hill at Closworth, towards the junction with the A37, when his car left the road. They’re appealing to anyone who witnessed the accident or has dashcam footage to please call the non-emergency number 101.

A Chard woman has been recognised in the King's Birthday Honours with a British Empire Medal for her services to mental health. Julie Matthews started the Chard Intentional Peer Support Group, bringing people together to overcome loneliness and isolation.
