Wessex Water's contacting large businesses, asking them to use less water. A ‘serious collision’ closed a stretch of the A30 in both directions yesterday afternoon.Two Somerset charities have benefitted from a combined £64,000, thanks to the Leonardo Rising Stars.

Wessex Water's contacting large businesses in Yeovil and South Somerset, asking them to use less water, with the company saying the hosepipe ban will remain in place for now. Rainfall in the county is below average for this time of year and water levels in reservoirs and rivers remain low - with Somerset officially in drought. Wessex Water introduced the first hosepipe ban in fifty years this summer.

A ‘serious collision’ closed a stretch of the A30 in both directions yesterday afternoon near the A35 Honiton turn. The incident left one vehicle overturned with an air ambulance called to the scene. Whilst all lanes reopened mid-afternoon, heavy traffic remained for some time on both the north and southbound carriageways.

Two Somerset charities have benefitted from a combined £64,000, thanks to the Leonardo Rising Stars. The next generation of engineering talent at the facility have spent two years fundraising, organising community events and taking on personal challenges. The donation from the early careers community is being shared equally between ANDYSMANCLUB and Yeovil Free Wheelers Blood Bikes.

The traffic-free ‘Strawberry Line’ has been named Britain’s favourite path by The Ramblers. The track linking the Mendip Hills with the sea follows the route of the former Great Western Railway branch line that ran through Yatton, Shepton Mallet, Wells and Cheddar until the late 1960s.

A forgotten vegetable is enjoying a return to the county’s fields. More than 100 people across seven villages between Glastonbury and Bridgwater are now growing mangelwurzels, a crop crossed between beetroot, sugar beet and chard. The Great Polden Hills Mangelwurzel Day took place at the weekend to celebrate, giving growers the chance to compete with their best specimens.
