Somerset Council are advising residents to have their bins out by 6 am at the latest in the early part of this week. With the weather forecast to be hot over the coming days, and the addition of Glastonbury Festival traffic, crews are starting extra early across the county on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to cope. If your collection falls on those days, you’re advised to put your recycling and rubbish bins out the night before if you can.

Meanwhile, the Glastonbury Festival organisers have revealed that a drone show will launch the 2024 event at 10.30 this Wednesday night, followed by the traditional fireworks. The hope is that the display will be visible from a number of locations nearby, with the best views from the Pyramid field.

People in Wincanton paid tribute to a World War 2 aircraft crew at the town’s Memorial Hall yesterday. The plane, dubbed ‘Old Faithful’ and carrying 9 Americans, crashlanded nearby 80 years ago on its way back from a bombing raid on Toulouse.

Staff at a Chard garage are hopeful after being announced as finalists at the 2024 Independent Garage Association awards. Tytherleigh Vehicle Electrics, based at the Chard Business Park, have been nominated in the ‘business improvement’ category. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Birmingham on the 20th of September.

And two big-name TV comedians will no longer perform at Somerset’s Comedy Festival after ticket sales were in the single figures. Mark Watson and Sean Walsh were headliners at the annual event. The festival is a community interest company so not for profit – and they say they're hoping to boost ticket sales for the remainder of the festival.
