A new group has been formed to challenge plans to build 100 new homes in Keinton Mandeville. Somerset Council granted outline permission for the scheme on the western edge of the village in June last year, despite strong local objections. The group, Stop Housing Obliterating the Character of Keinton, known as SHOCK, has launched a crowdfunding appeal to pay for a judicial review against the Council, which, if successful, could overturn the decision.
Bridgwater Town Council has voted to increase its share of the Council Tax by 5% from April. For a Band D household, the change to the Town Council portion of council tax equates to around 40p per week, with most Bridgwater households, 93% of which fall into Bands A–C, paying less. A Band B property, for example, will see an increase of approximately 31p per week.
Castle Cary railway station is being upgraded to improve accessibility. It follows a campaign by people who use wheelchairs, including Jane Wickenden from Wincanton, who has to rely on staff at Castle Cary station to supervise her crossing the track.
