    A woman from Crewkerne has pleaded guilty to assaulting two emergency workers. Appearing before local magistrates, Rebecca Tuck, aged 22, of Park View, in Crewkerne was fined £280 and told to pay compensation of £400. Tuck also pleaded guilty to damaging a police vehicle but was not given a separate penalty.

    Somerset Council’s 110 elected councillors are in line for a pay rise. Councillors are paid a basic allowance for performing constituency duties, dealing with correspondence and attending meetings. If approved at a budget meeting of the Council on Wednesday, the basic allowance that councillors are paid will increase to £16,135, up from £15,500.

    It could soon be much easier to find an NHS dentist in South Somerset. This follows the announcement that Chard and Crewkerne will be provided with new NHS dental surgeries. 

    Vaughan Lee House care home in Ilminster has been rated "good' following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission. After an inspection last year, the home was found to be in breach of a number of regulations, including safeguarding from abuse, and good governance. But the new report says monitoring systems have been improved and the home is no longer in breach of the regulations.

    An animal rescue centre in Somerset is offering cats as companions to people who live alone. St Giles Animal Rescue Centre says a cat in a house can help with loneliness and feelings of isolation. 

    A Yeovil man has been publicly thanked by the cardiac charity, Heartbeat, for his outstanding fundraising efforts. Nigel Brown, who, with his wife Diana, stayed at Rotary Heartbeat House in Southampton while their son, George, was undergoing life-saving heart surgery, has raised £10,000 for Heartbeat in the 20 years since George had his operation.
