Multiple flood alerts and warnings remain in place across South Somerset following the weekend’s heavy rainfall with more rain to come today and tomorrow. Somerset Council says Red Flood warning are in force for the River Parrett at Langport with flooding expected to the Westover Trading Estate. And, the River Yeo at Muchelney with flooding expected to low lying properties. Amber flood alerts are in place on all rivers in South Somerset meaning flooding is possible. Somerset Council says multi-agency support continues with response teams on the ground. To report a flood call; Somerset Council on 0800 80 70 60 or the Environment Agency on 0300 123 2224.

Work starts today repairing a sinkhole on Station Road in Castle Cary which has blocked a busy road for more than four years. Station Road collapsed close to a new housing development in July 2021. Castle Cary Town Council say the road will shut to traffic between 8am and 5pm weekdays for the next two months while the sinkhole is repaired.

Eye operations in Somerset have been cancelled because money earmarked by the NHS for a private provider has been spent. It’s reported that SpaMedica in Taunton has fulfilled the 2-thousand procedures it was contracted to carry out and is rescheduling operations for the next financial year. Sheila Jeffrey, from Chard, was booked to have a cataract operation in February but says her appointment has been postponed.

Plans have been submitted to sub-divide retail premises in Crewkerne into three smaller units. If approved, 9 Market Street will be turned into two shops with the first floor converted to office space.

A business in Crewkerne is closing after 50-years trading in the town. Antiques Bazaar, on South St, will close at the end of March following the retirement of owner, Anthony Bucke.
