Yeovil MP Adam Dance is calling for more targeted support for schools in Somerset. In a written reply to the Education Minister, Mr Dance expressed concerns about teacher shortages in local schools, saying recruitment continues to be a serious issue for Headteachers. The government says it’s giving £29,000 to each of six schools in the Yeovil area to pay for trainee teachers and help retain existing staff.

Plans have been approved to change a former care home in Yeovil into a house of multiple occupation. The Ferns Nursing Home on St Michael’s Avenue closed in 2022 and will be converted into three communal kitchen-dining areas, two lounges and two laundry rooms. The HMO will have thirty-one bedrooms, with construction due to start in the autumn.

Police are appealing for witnesses to an accident near Wells in which a cyclist died after colliding with a van. It happened on the A39 in Polsham on Tuesday at around 5.30 pm. If you saw what happened or have dashcam footage, you’re asked to please call the non-emergency number 101.

A symposium on the future of farming takes place at the Royal Bath and West Showground tomorrow. Glastonbury and Somerton MP, Sarah Dyke, is hosting the event, and inviting farmers and those who work generally in the agricultural sector to attend.

Fishers Lane in Hinton St George is closed for resurfacing today. It’s shut between Fosse Way and Kingstone Road and will stay closed until next Wednesday, April 16th.
