Yeovil MP Adam Dance is calling for more targeted support for schools in Somerset. In a written reply to the Education Minister, Mr Dance expressed concerns about teacher shortages in local schools, saying recruitment continues to be a serious issue for Headteachers. The government says it’s giving £29,000 to each of six schools in the Yeovil area to pay for trainee teachers and help retain existing staff.
Plans have been approved to change a former care home in Yeovil into a house of multiple occupation. The Ferns Nursing Home on St Michael’s Avenue closed in 2022 and will be converted into three communal kitchen-dining areas, two lounges and two laundry rooms. The HMO will have thirty-one bedrooms, with construction due to start in the autumn.
