Castle Cary railway station’s makeover has been officially unveiled. The project, costing £835,000, means rail users are now able to see many of the building’s historic features, including the fireplaces, skirting and cornices revealed during the work. GWR say the transformation also includes extra seating, a new digital departure board and upgraded toilet facilities.

A new 18 million pound diagnostic centre in Bridgwater opened yesterday, aimed at easing pressure on the NHS in the county and improving patient waiting times at Yeovil District Hospital and Musgrove Park. The facility, which took a year to build, hopes to carry out 25,000 diagnostic MRI and CT scans each year, with the addition of a urology unit in the near future.

A Crewkerne teenager has been named ‘coach of the year’ for his work with Bristol City’s Cerebral Palsy team. Casey Young, who has cerebral palsy, received the prize alongside 11 fellow coaches before Tuesday’s Community Shield match in Cardiff. Young gives advice and training to junior  footballers twice a week as a volunteer.
