More than 4,500 people have expressed interest in joining a new NHS dental practice in Crewkerne. The practice, run by DentistryForYou, offers both NHS and private treatments and is due to open next month. It says three out of four people wanting an appointment live in Crewkerne and the surrounding postcodes.
Somerset Council says a long-term solution is needed to make Hendford Hill in Yeovil fully safe for motorists. The road is due to reopen in both directions at the end of May after being closed for six weeks following a landslip. Work to clear vegetation from an embankment is ongoing, but the council says it is only a short-term measure and a longer-term plan is needed.
Dorset Council and Sherborne Town Council have been criticised over the fire that caused extensive damage to Newall House in Sherborne. Police believe Sunday’s blaze at the Grade II-listed building was started deliberately, following reports of anti-social behaviour and people sleeping rough at the property. The Sherborne branch of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England says the two councils should have acted more quickly to protect Newall House from intruders.
