The NHS in Somerset is the first in the country to trial an online self-referral service for breast cancer. Patients can access the service through the NHS 111 helpline, online or via the NHS App.

The MET office has confirmed that January was the wettest in Somerset since 2014. The South of England as a whole had its sixth wettest January since records began in 1836.

The go ahead has been given to build 28 new homes in Tintinhull. Developers, Orwell Ltd will build the properties on land off Head Street. It follows a long delay in deciding the plans caused by the ongoing phosphates crisis.

Yeovil Town Council says it won’t increase its share of the Council Tax to pay for the redevelopment of the Octagon Theatre. Members of the Council’s Finance and Policy Committee have been told that money for the £15 million pound project will come from the Council’s reserve funds, alongside support from neighbouring councils; Brympton Parish Council and Yeovil Without Parish Council.

An Ilminster couple have re-started their attempt to walk the 7,300 miles of the UK coastal path. Zoe Langley-Wathen and her husband Mike Langley had to abandon the challenge in October when Zoe suffered a stress fracture in her foot. The couple, who are raising money for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, re-started the walk this week, which is expected to take two years to complete, from where they left it at Poole Harbour.

And, St Margaret’s Hospice has moved its shop in Hendford in Yeovil to the former Argos store on the High Street in the town centre. St Margaret’s says its retail operation supports local sustainability by giving quality pre-loved items a new lease of life, while raising vital funds for the end-of-life charity.
