NHS Somerset says planned strike action by junior doctors in the run-up to Christmas will impact patients. Junior doctors are set to stop work for 3 days beginning December 12th and for a further six days beginning January 3rd.

Avon and Somerset Police has launched its Christmas anti-drink and drug-driving campaign. They’re asking the public to call 101 if they suspect someone, about to get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, of being over the legal drink-drive limit.

Somerset Council is warning of delays in collecting household waste due to the bad weather. Crews will be working on Saturday to catch up on the backlog and householders are asked to leave out their bags for collection until the weekend. Somerset Council says if waste has not been collected by Saturday then to take it back inside and put it back out on the usual collection day next week.

A planning inspector has rejected plans to build 73 new homes in Chilthorne Domer. Neither South Somerset District Council nor its successor Somerset Council decided on the application. Developers, Land Allocation Ltd, lodged an appeal on the grounds of non-determination, meaning the council had failed to decide a reasonable amount of time. A planning inspector has ruled the new homes should not be built, describing the proposed development as "an uncomfortable fit" for the area.

The team behind Yeovil's Octagon Pantomime, which this year is being held at Westland’s Entertainment Venue due to the Octagon Theatre being closed, say adapting the production to a smaller venue has been challenging. Marketing Manager, Martin Hacker, says they have had to extend the stage at Westlands to accommodate the panto.
