    The fire service has blamed a discarded portable barbecue for starting a blaze at Ham Hill Country Park. Flames were reported spreading through a hedge and undergrowth before being extinguished by firefighters from Martock Fire Station. People are being advised that BBQs are not permitted at Ham Hill.    

    A care home for people with autism and complex needs in Crewkerne has been rated 'good' by the Care Quality Commission. Autism Wessex in Middle Path cares for up to four people and was visited by inspectors in May, who found it to be a safe and well-led service.

    A charity behind a work experience programme being trialled in Somerset says it plans to roll it out nationwide. Students at Preston School in Yeovil have been working together in small teams to market Clarks shoes for a new generation of 14- to 15-year-olds. The students spend 5 days learning about branding, marketing, and digital communication before pitching their ideas to the company. 

    A Yeovil boy has set a new world record for the most consecutive sit-ups performed by someone in his age group. Oscar, who’s 7, completed 650 sit-ups without a break to set the record.

    The National Trust is inviting people to Barrington Court near Ilminster to take part in the Festival of Archaeology. The Festival of Archaeology, organised by the Council for British Archaeology, will take place at Barrington Court from Saturday, July 19th, to Sunday, August 3rd.
