Police investigating an attack on a shop worker in Yeovil have released CCTV images of a man and woman they want to speak to. The incident happened at a mobile phone shop in Middle Street in the town centre when, apart from the attack on the shop worker, a security camera was also damaged. The images of the pair can be viewed on the Avon and Somerset Police website and if you think you know who they are, you’re asked to call the police non-emergency number 101.

Farmers in Somerset are being warned to expect more cases of bluetongue. Nearly one thousand cases of the virus have been confirmed across the UK, including 89 in Somerset alone. Mandy Nevel, Head of Animal Health and Welfare at the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, says the hot weather has been a contributing factor to the rise in infections.

Somerset Council says a decision on plans to build up to 1500 new homes in Taunton will be made by Christmas. Persimmon Homes and Redrow Homes want to build the homes, together with business units, a school, and a relief road, as part of the Monkton Heathfield urban extension. The plans have been on hold since 2022, during which time the development has gone through many changes following negotiations between the developers and planning officers.

Work has started on protecting bats at a new Health and Social Care Academy being built in Bridgwater. Construction of the building, on the site of the former community hospital in Salmon Parade, was paused for experts to assess how best to protect the bats. The gatehouse attic will now be converted into a safe space for the bats, with building work restarting by the end of the year.

Ilminster Carnival Committee has announced the cancellation of this year's Children's Carnival due to a lack of entries. Organisers say the event is no longer viable and that the cancellation only affects the Children's Carnival and not the evening carnival which remain unchanged. Ilminster Carnival takes place on Saturday October 3rd starting at 7 pm.

And, Yeovil Town are back in National League action tonight. They’re playing away at Aldershot. Kick off is at 7.45 pm.
