Avon and Somerset Police are asking the owners of replica guns to hand them in as part of a nationwide amnesty. Police say certain types of replica guns can be converted into dangerous weapons and have given owners to the end of this month to hand them in to avoid the risk of prosecution.
Motorists in the Bruton and Wincanton area are paying out hundreds of pounds in repairs to tyres, wheels, and suspensions due to the poor state of roads in the area, according to a local councillor. Councillor Lucy Trimnell, who represents Bruton and Wincanton on Somerset Council, claims the A359 between Bruton and Nunney is in a particularly bad state of repair. She says simply carrying out pothole repairs is not the answer and that the A359 needs a complete resurfacing. Somerset Council says it’s dealing with "unprecedented" demand to fix damaged roads and that additional resources have been allocated to ensure potholes are fixed more quickly.
The fire service says a motorbike, destroyed by fire in Chard, was set alight deliberately. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service says they were called to a blaze at Chard Cemetery on Zembard Lane earlier yesterday morning where they found a motorbike well alight. An investigation is now underway.
