People in Somerset are being reminded to check that they are registered to vote at elections. It’s part of efforts by Somerset Council to encourage people to register before it is too late, as anyone not on the electoral register cannot vote in elections. Postal reminders are being sent out this week with people who’ve moved house recently urged to check they are registered to vote. If you are registered and your details have not changed,  you do not need to do anything more.

Chard United FC is seeking further financial help with building new changing facilities at Jocelyn Park. Somerset Council has given eighty-three thousand pounds to the project and the Football Foundation twenty-five thousand but the Club says it needs to raise a further ten and a half thousand pounds before the work can start. Chard United would like the new changing rooms built in time for the Club’s fortieth anniversary next year.

The Somerset-based double transplant athlete, Keeleigh John, says she’s lucky to be alive after being hospitalised with diabetes. Keeleigh says she has been diagnosed with Steroid Induced Diabetes as a result of the long-term medication she uses to keep her liver and kidneys healthy. She says life has become one big juggling act.

Members of a Yeovil karate club have done well at a world championship event held in London. The South England Karate Academy based at Bucklers Mead Sports Centre returned with five bronze, three silver, and two gold medals.

A bridal boutique in Ilminster has been shortlisted for a national award. Fourteen and Sixpence, which opened in 2014, has been selected as a finalist for the South West in ‘The Wedding Industry Awards’.
