Plans have been submitted to build 61 new homes between Montacute and Stoke-sub-Hamdon. The development would be on land next to the playing fields at Stanchester Academy. Acorn Property Group, which is behind the scheme, says 21 of the 61 homes would be ‘affordable’. Somerset Council’s expected to decide on the application early in the New Year.

Organisers of Langport Triathlon, held at the weekend, say it’ll be a few more days yet before they’re able to give out the results in the cycling section. It follows a medical emergency in the crowd at Sunday's event, which delayed some competitors from reaching the finish line.

A new museum, telling the story of Clarks’ shoes, opens in Street on Thursday. The opening coincides with the 200th anniversary of shoe production starting in Somerset.

Entries have opened for this year’s Somerset Prepared Community Resilience Awards, recognising people and groups who’ve helped their local area be better able to deal with emergencies. Entries are invited on behalf of people who have set up a flood group, run a good neighbour scheme, written a community emergency plan, or organised volunteer training. Entry forms can be found on Somerset Council’s website. Entries close on Monday, September 22nd.

A new town crier is wanted in Wells. It follows the retirement of Len Sweales from the role after 25 years.

Martock Job Club is holding two drop-in sessions today. People seeking employment will be offered help finding vacancies, as well as accessing training and education. The sessions at the Parish Hall in Martock are free to attend and run from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 3.30 pm.
